A Rose Garden
In the seventies, Lynn Anderson recorded a famous song written by Joe South called “A Rose Garden.” Although the song was written for entertainment, it also revealed a special message concerning human life.
The song tells of love for another person. The love-stricken person (he or she) was enamored by the object of their love; they would say anything or give anything to keep that relationship. But something went wrong.
The love-stricken person was tired of working for the other person’s affection; they concluded nothing would ever be satisfying enough to secure the other person’s love. As a result of the lover’s conclusion, they admitted it was better to let that person go rather than imprison them.
Admitting a failure can leave a person heartbroken, lonely, and lost. The world has many of the devil’s lures to hook and pull you into his net of emotional satisfaction. You have heard of the seven sins in the Bible: pride, envy, wrath, sloth, greed, gluttony, and lust. Theyare supplemented by false love, false hope, and false attraction.
Such an example is when a person is attracted to another person so faithfully they accept dastardly abuse, often for no fault of their own. This type of relationship is called “Trauma Bonding.” Trauma bonding, the bond someone feels towards their partner who is perpetrating abuse, is often the result of these roller-coaster emotions in a relationship. People can’t control this attachment. Our brains are wired through our fight or flight response to get through traumatic experiences (like an incident of abuse) by seeking comfort, and sometimes, yes, that is from the very person who has harmed us.” (see source of materials below *)
Unfortunately, Christians can be persuaded by the devil to fall prey to such abuse as well. Alcohol, drugs, eating, hating, money, pride, lust, and many others can be used against us. The devil has many tools, but you can defeat him through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
Please remember that we can only beat the devil with the Lord Jesus’s help. James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. KJV.
